Chhapaak: Deepika's bold performance couldn't save the script

Film which had too much expectations, jittery storyline rocked the boat of Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak. Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey starrer acid attack survivor story didn't kick the guts as it was expected to. Chhapaak is Deepika's first film as a producer and directed by Raazi director Meghna Gulzar.

Malti (character portrayed by Deepika) is a parallel story of real life acid attack victim Lakshmi and how she struggles and adjusts with her life after the attack. Although, the story seems to be inspiring, it lacks the interest factor as it appears to be lengthening. Even the whole cast's acting skills and Deepika's performance could not save the script.

The performances did bring a few tears amongst the audience and Deepika surely managed to demonstrate emotions in the viewers through her consuming acting skills. A special credit should go to the makeup artist for creating a surreal look for Malti's acid attack journey as her face goes through a lot of transformations. The trailer surely looked promising but the lack of a gripping storyline set the bar low.

The idea and message behind the story is strong and the efforts to create a difference should be appreciated. The storyline also attacks the mentality in which the acid attack survivors are seen by the society. Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy along with Gulzar's lyrics has some beautiful melodies in the film. Chhapaak currently has 4.1/10 rating on IMDb which is too low as compared to the hype created before the movie.
